They break the cartilage after harvesting them with sharp saws. This is important to provide grafts in order to repair fractures and deviations. In addition, they can use the grafts to add volume in nose procedures like rhinoplasty.

After the surgeon harvests pieces of cartilage, they opens the two limbs of the device and place the cartilages between them. They can store the grafts in the lower limb of the device until they are suitable to use. Then, using the handles for pressure, they compress the blades to break down the soft cartilage into smaller pieces.
